It all started when our good friend David Guttman acquired a NIA (Neural Impulse Actuator). A consumer eeg sensor, the NIA allows you to transfer brain wave data to your computer. David, myself and Matthew Davis pow wow’d about what sort of interactive apparatus you could make with this technology. Brainpod is what we came up with.
Basically, the user sits in a chair enshrouded in an oblong fabric clad structure, dons the NIA over their forehead and is confronted with a barrage of sound and light. After some time, he or she begins to realize that they are in control of these effects! We were quite amazed by how precise some people were able to change the colors and sounds around them.
